The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s (FBCCI) market monitoring committee has called upon the market committee to be proactive to prevent dishonest traders from making extra profits.

FBCCI Vice President and Bazar Monitoring Committee Convener Md Amin Helaly made the call at a meeting with Mohammadpur Town Hall Market’s local bazar committee on Wednesday.

He said, “Unscrupulous traders and all parties involved with them should be identified and punished. Please inform FBCCI about dishonest traders. We will take strict action against them with the cooperation of the government.”

The senior vice-president of the organisation also said that FBCCI is monitoring the market as part of its responsibility for keeping the prices stable during Ramadan.

"Our activities will continue along with various government agencies. But consumers also need to change their buying habits. A month's market should be more moderate than one day,” he added.

Md Abdul Jabbar Mondol, Assistant Director of National Consumer Rights Protection, suggested that each market should have its own surveillance system of traders' association or market committee to keep the commodity market stable.

"If traders are aware and vocal, product adulteration can be prevented and product prices can be kept under control."

President of Mohammadpur Townhall Dhaka North City Corporation Kitchen Market Merchant Association Md Lutfar Rahman (Babul) said that they will work in coordination with the government and FBCCI to regulate the market.
