Bangladeshi Nusrat's film selected for Sony Future Filmmaker Awards

Bangladeshi screenwriter Nusrat Islam Maati's short film "Below the Window" has been selected for the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards.

The film was selected in the 'Student' category from a pool of 8,400 submissions from 148 countries.

"Below the Window" tells the story of Maria, a new mother living in isolation with her baby, who encounters a mysterious stranger who seeks shelter from an approaching storm. The stranger's presence becomes increasingly unsettling as the film progresses.

The film was written by Nusrat Islam Maati while she was a postgraduate student at the National Film School in Dublin. It was produced by Katnis Tung Cheng of Hong Kong and Salvador Alejandro Gutiérrez of Mexico, with support from Erasmus and Kino Eyes.

Nusrat Islam Maati is now a teacher at a private university in Dhaka. She was unable to attend the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards ceremony in Los Angeles due to visa issues.

Nusrat and her colleagues eagerly anticipate participating in the forthcoming exclusive workshop hosted by the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards in Los Angeles, California. This event promises a valuable development opportunity for selected filmmakers, encompassing producers, directors, and screenwriters alike.

The 30 selected films will be screened at the Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California on May 30. The six winning films will be announced at a ceremony that evening.
