Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman – founder chairman of the country’s top conglomerate PHP Family and Ekushey Padak winner – told the students of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), “We have a golden Bangladesh, you will build a diamond nation.

“No country in the world has been able to gain independence in just 9 months, but the Bengali people achieved this feat. I believe that the Bengali people will one day become the best nation in the world. Bangabandhu's speech, which was only 18 minutes long, united an entire nation.”

He continued, “Amazing infrastructure, such as the Padma Bridge and Bangabandhu Tunnel, have been built under the sole initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, without financial support from anyone.

“This nation has the power to shine, and we must utilise this power. That is why we have to march forward at an unstoppable speed with integrity and hard work.”

Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman made these remarks as the keynote speaker at a programme titled “Industry-Academia Motivational Speech,” held at the RUET on Saturday. The event was organised by the Research and Extension Unit of RUET.

At the programme, Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman said, “Success can be achieved with an iron will to overcome life's obstacles, and hard work is the key requirement for getting ahead in life. Work carried out with honesty and integrity is certain to bring success by the grace of Allah.

“Students should work hard in all sectors, from education, knowledge acquisition to employment or business.”

He added, “Without a dream there can never be any success in life. Those who are in need and have dreams of becoming someone big, must possess passion, suffering, and haste in their hearts. The drive to go big must be maintained.

“Then whatever obstacles may come in life, can be overcome.”

Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman continued, “Most people in our society never work more than necessary. They only perform their duties within office hours. As they only work to get paid. I must insist that work must be owned, and additional hours must be given.”

Sharing the example of how he became an industrialist, Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman said, “I started out with a job paying only Tk 100. But I never thought little of work my entire life. I always worked two-three times what my duty required. I owned my work.

“I dreamt of becoming a big success, and I achieved my goal with hard work. We must remember that it is futile to dream of success without hard work.”

He added, “Everyone has amazing talent hidden inside, and all that is needed now is to shine. There is no substitute for honesty, dedication and hard work. Work defines how much a person can grow in life.”

RUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Jahangir Alam, Trustee Board member of the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS) and Managing Director of PHP Float Glass Industries Ltd Mohammed Amir Hossain, and RUET Research and Extension Unit Director Prof Dr Faruk Hossain spoke at the event among others.

Later, Prof Dr Jahangir Alam handed over an honorary crest to Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman on behalf of RUET Research and Extension Unit.
