LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam today placed Local Government (Union Parishad) (Amendment) Bill, 2024 in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) aimed at strengthening local government institutions financially, identifying ways to reduce dependence on public allocations and making the Union Parishad Bill more modern and service-oriented.

According to the bill details, the chairmen and members of the Union Parishads will get honorarium fixed by the government during their tenure.

“Through this, there will be no legal complications regarding payment of allowance to any Union Parishad chairman or member who is suspended,” the minister told the House.
