Voting in the upazila parishad election is scheduled to take place in 141 upazilas on Wednesday. To this end, 418 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) platoons have been deployed to ensure free, fair and peaceful polls.
This was disclosed in a press release issued on Tuesday, signed by BGB Public Relations Officer (PRO) Md Shariful Islam.
The release further states that the BGB will work as a mobile and striking force to maintain peace and order in electoral areas from May 6 – 10 under “In Aid to the Civil Power” to support civil administrations in the first phase of upazila parishad polls, to be held on May 8.
This time, the elections will be held in 481 upazilas in four phases. Voting in the first phase will commence on May 8, the second phase on May 11, the third phase on May 18, and the fourth phase on May 25.
