Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet will be honoured at the upcoming Munich International Film Festival with the prestigious CineMerit Award for her extraordinary achievements in cinema.

Winslet is set to attend the German festival to present the European premiere of her latest film, "Lee," where she portrays the captivating war correspondent and photographer Lee Miller.

Following the Munich screening, she will be presented with the CineMerit Award and participate in a live discussion.

Directed by Ellen Kuras, "Lee" had its world premiere in Toronto last year. The film boasts a stellar cast alongside Winslet, including Marion Cotillard, Andrea Riseborough, Noémie Merlant, Josh O’Connor, and Andy Samberg.

Winslet also served as a producer on the project. Scheduled for a German theatrical release in September by StudioCanal, "Lee" is a highly anticipated addition to the festival line up.

"We are thrilled to have Kate Winslet celebrate the European premiere of 'Lee' with us in Munich. Lee is a powerful and captivating character study. The Munich International Film Festival, with its diverse selection of films and voices, is committed to sending a strong message of democracy, inclusivity, and unity," said festival director Christoph Gröner and artistic co-director Julia Weigl in a joint statement.

Winslet studied drama at the Redroofs Theatre School. Her first screen appearance, at age 15, was in the British television series Dark Season (1991). She made her film debut playing a teenage murderess in Heavenly Creatures (1994) and won a BAFTA Award for playing Marianne Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility (1995). Global stardom followed with her leading role in James Cameron's epic romance Titanic (1997), which was the highest-grossing film at the time.

This year's ceremony will see another legendary actress, Jessica Lange, join Winslet as a CineMerit Award recipient.

The 41st Munich Film Festival will take place from June 28 to July 7.
