The traditional, historical and patriotic ceremonies “Immortal Regiment” and “St George Ribbon” were held in the capital of Bangladesh to celebrate the Great Victory Day of Russia.

Director of the Russian House in Dhaka Pavel Dvoychenkov told TASS about this on Wednesday.

According to him, “The march of the Immortal Regiment” annually unites hundreds of Russian and Bangladeshi citizens who want to honour the memory of the heroes who fought on the fronts of the “Great Patriotic War.”

He emphasised that the local police ensured the safety of the convoy. He said, “The number of participants in Bangladesh this year was unprecedented compared to previous years. The event was held in the format of a motor rally. There were more than 50 motorcycles, more than 30 cars and about more than 200 people.”

Along the way, volunteers and students distributed “St George” ribbons to the residents of Dhaka and explained the meaning of the symbols.

Dvoychenkov said, “Local residents reacted with great interest to what was happening, especially when they found out that the event was organised by Russia.”

“The Immortal Regiment” is a public event which is held to immortalise the memory of participants and victims of the Great Patriotic War.

Traditionally, on May 9 or on nearby dates, its participants usually marched in a column, carrying banners with photographs of their veteran relatives.

From 2020, this event is usually held in an online or mixed format. For security reasons, the traditional march was not held in Russia in 2023.
