Theatre troupe Prachyanat staged its 41st production ‘Agun Jatra’, at the Dr Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mohila Samity yesterday.

Originally titled ‘Seven Steps Around the Fire’ and written by contemporary Indian playwright Mahesh Dattani, the play has been translated by Shahidul Mamun and has been adapted and directed by Azad Abul Kalam.

Agun Jatra gives the audience a glimpse into the life of a transgender person. The play goes as Uma who is doing research on transgender people uncovers the truth surrounding the death of Kamala while working on the paper.

Kamala was in a relationship with Subbu, the son of a minister. When Subbu’s father becomes aware of that, he burns Kamala to death. After Subbu learned of Kamala’s death, he also committed suicide. Later, to cover the murder, he framed a transgender woman named Anarkali for the murder.
