Singapore’s Non-Resident High Commissioner to Bangladesh Derek Loh Eu-Tse has said Singapore is eager to provide the required technical assistance, and train those working in the aviation industry for efficient airport management.

He made these remarks during a meeting with the Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Muhammad Faruk Khan at his Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban office on Thursday, reads a press release.

Derek said, “Bangladesh and Singapore share a very strong tie. In Singapore, more than one lakh Bangladeshi workers are employed in various sectors in Singapore.

“Bangladeshi workers are very skilled and hardworking. In the future, Singapore is considering hiring more workers from Bangladesh.”

He added that Bangladesh’s aviation industry is progressively growing. Singapore is eager to contribute to the efforts that are starting to turn Bangladesh into a major aviation centre.

Meanwhile, Faruk said the advancement of Bangladesh’s aviation sector would be achieved through business-friendly policies, development of security systems, improved passenger services, and efficient airport management.

He pointed out that the government is working to transform Bangladesh into one of the world's leading aviation centres. Over the past 15 years, all of Bangladesh’s domestic and international airports have seen significant infrastructural and technological developments.

“Training continues to enhance the skills of those working in the aviation industry. Furthermore, we are giving priority on state-owned airlines' fleet expansion,” he added.

The minister expressed gratitude to Singapore for looking after Bangladeshi workers amid Covid-19, and said the way Singapore creates awareness to protect the rights and safety of expatriate workers deserves praise.

The more Bangladeshi labourers are given the chance to work in Singapore, they will demonstrate their worth through skills and dedication, he added.
