Bangladeshi athlete Al Amin clinched the gold medal in the 3000-metre steeplechase event of the Malaysian Invitational Open Athletics Championship 2024 held at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Pahang, Malaysia on Saturday.

Al Amin brought laurel for the country by winning the event's gold medal with a timing of 9:32.39 seconds, reports UNB.

Gouranga Roy emerged as the first Bangladeshi athlete to win the first-ever silver medal abroad in hammer throw covering a distance of 50.28 metres.

Another Bangladeshi athlete Sourav Mia won the bronze in the pole vault jumping 4.40 metres.

All three medal-winning Bangladesh athletes belong to the Bangladesh Army.

Earlier in the opening day [Friday], Ritu Akter of Bangladesh clinched the silver medal in high jump.
