Ashim Saha, famed Bangladeshi poet and novelist, passed away on Tuesday [June 18, 2024] around 4pm while undergoing treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
Ashim was born on February 20, 1949 at his maternal uncle's home in Netrakona. His ancestral home is Madaripur. He passed his secondary exam in 1965, and HSC exam from Madaripur Nazim Uddin College in 1967.
In 1973, he obtained his master's degree from the Bengali Department of Dhaka University. Ashim's writing career started in 1964.
He has received many awards during his lifetime, including the prestigious Alaol Award. He received the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2011 and Ekushey Padak - the country's second highest civilian honour - in 2019.
