The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has started an operation to demolish Sadeeq Agro Farm – now infamous due to the goat purchase saga – as it was built over a filled-up occupied canal and road adjacent to the embankment of Mohammadpur.

This operation started around 12pm Thursday.

Eyewitnesses said the demolition was supposed to begin this morning. But, a mobile court started the operation by demolishing the office in the western part of the farm around 12:20pm. Farm structures have been bulldozed as well.

After the demolition started, the goat worth Tk 15 lakh was taken out from the farm and kept in an empty area next to it, along with other sacrificial animals.

Insiders say several cows of Sadeeq Agro were removed on Wednesday night after the farm received a tip off on the scheduled demolition. Apart from official demolition, the residents removed some of the illegally occupied temporary structures on the canal and road sides.

During a spot visit this morning, the correspondent saw that the local residents are demolishing the structures built illegally by occupying a canal and road space adjacent to Mohammadpur embankment.

Before the start of the DNCC operation, they removed the tins of many houses next to Sadeeq Agro.

The DNCC property department on Wednesday had sent a letter to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner, seeking deployment of adequate police force to carry out this operation.

Imran Hossain, the owner of Sadeeq Agro Farm, is also the president of Bangladesh Dairy Farmers’ Association (BDFA).

The letter, which was sent to DMP, mentions that the illegal establishments of Sadeeq Agro Ltd will be removed from canals, roads, and near the embankment of Mohammadpur under Zone 5 of Dhaka North City Corporation.

Three platoons of male police and one platoon of female police personnel will be required to conduct this operation.
