Farmer killed, 3 hurt over land dispute in Sherpur

A farmer was killed and three others were injured in an attack by rivals over a land dispute in the Joginimura Namapara area in Sherpur sadar upazila on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Samidul Haque Kena, 65, son of late Sayed Ali Mondal from Joginimura Namapara village.

According to locals, Samidul had a dispute with his neighbours Harun and Siddiq Khalifa over a piece of land at Joginimura Namapara.

On Saturday morning, Siddiq and his associates went to plant banana trees on the disputed land.

When Samidul tried to intervene, the opponent group attacked and beat him, leaving him injured.

He was taken to Sherpur district hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Parvez Mia, son of Samidul and two others were injured in the attack. They were admitted to the district hospital.

Md Shafiqul Islam, Inspector (Investigation) of Sadar Police Station, said land dispute might be the reason behind the murder.

Superintendent of Police Md. Akramul Hossain along with senior district police officials visited the spot.

Preparations are underway to file a case at Sadar Police Station, he said.
