The 101st batch of fresh Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recruits, comprising 556 soldiers, graduated on Thursday with a resolute commitment to securing the nation's borders.

The recruits shared their determination during the passing out ceremony at the Bir Uttam Mojibur Rahman Parade Ground at the Border Guard Training Centre and College (BGTC&C) in Baitul Izzat.

Chabatun Ullah Jim, who secured the top position among female recruits, expressed her dedication by saying, "I wanted to work in defence as it matches my lifestyle. That is why I gave my best during the training after being given the opportunity at BGB.

"I will not be held back because I am a woman. I believe that women will advance equally alongside men," she affirmed. "I am determined to protect the country's borders. If needed, I will sacrifice my life for the nation, always standing against any enemy at the border."

Of the 556 recruits trained at the BGTC&C since January 14,520 were male, and 36 were female, all participating in the rigorous 24-week basic training programme.

Minhaz Hossain Rafi, the top rank holder of the 101st recruit batch, stated, "We, all 556 of us, are united as one warrior with a single goal: to protect the borders of Bangladesh." He added, "Today, we took an oath. I will work to protect the integrity of our motherland and protect the border as ever-vigilant sentinels."

As the passing out programme's chief guest, Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui addressed the new soldiers, emphasising the importance of protecting the sovereignty and integrity of the country through border patrols. "BGB will be the symbol of security and trustworthiness at the border."

He highlighted the need for integrity, honesty, loyalty, and discipline in moulding new recruits into patriotic soldiers. "Work with honesty, stay on the right path, and love your country," he advised the recruits.

He also stressed the importance of combating cross-border smuggling of illegal weapons and explosives and preventing the trafficking of women and children. He urged the new soldiers to maintain the chain of command, avoid unethical earnings and disciplinary misconduct, and be cautious while using social media platforms.

Addressing the new female soldiers, Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui said, "In safeguarding the independence and sovereignty of our country, alongside men, women also play a significant role. Remember the unforgettable sacrifices of the heroic women of Bangladesh in the struggle for our independence. I believe you will work with dedication and skill to enhance the force's reputation and prosperity while ensuring overall discipline and dynamic roles."
