Experts at a workshop have urged all ministries and agencies to integrate their services with the National e-Service Bus for enhanced interoperability and availability of government online services.

The workshop on Bangladesh National Digital Architecture (BNDA) was organised by the World Bank-financed Enhancing Digital Government and Economy (EDGE) Project of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) at Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel in Dhaka on Sunday.

ICT Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin chaired it while BCC Executive Director Ranajit Kumar attended as a special guest. BCC Senior Technical Specialist Tanimul Bari presented the keynote.

The Open Group India General Manager and Association of Enterprise Architect President Pallab Saha also presented another keynote at the function.

Addressing the programme, Arefin said that the already-integrated 30 services, including NID, birth and death registration, pay fixation system, e-primary system and data analytics platforms have eased end user’s easy access to it and reduced the cost of developing the database.

He said, “The verification of NID of 17.5 crore times so far using the National e-Service Bus has proven the efficacy of the platform, which ensures interoperability and availability of government services.”

He mentioned that some government organisations have had to spend a substantial amount of money to gather information and develop databases separately required for various tasks.

“If they established a connection with the National e-Service Bus, they could avoid redundant effort and expense of developing databases that are already available on the platform,” he added.

Arefin urged the government agencies to develop their software services in accordance with the guidelines and standards of the Bangladesh National Digital Enterprise Architecture (BNDA) and integrate them with the National e-Service Bus.

He said that would streamline operations, improve data sharing, and foster a more cohesive digital ecosystem across the government.

“With the objective of developing a whole-of-government approach, the BNDA platform aims at bringing uniformity in software which is now separately developed by different government agencies so that interoperability is possible,” he added.

EDGE Project Director Md Shakhawat Hossain and BCC Senior Technical Specialist Farhad Hossain were also present among others.

BNDA is an architectural framework and a strategic planning tool that helps in translating smart Bangladesh vision and strategy into effective transformation. It is driven by an e-service bus to solve the architectural problem of achieving seamless e-government interoperability.
