7 energy, power-related MoUs likely to be signed

State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said on Thursday that seven major energy and power-related memorandums of understanding (MoUs) are likely to be finalised and signed during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s upcoming China visit.

The state minister revealed that discussions with China have been ongoing regarding investments in these projects on a government-to-government (G2G) basis. "If China agrees during the Prime Minister's visit, an MoU may be signed," Nasrul told reporters at a press conference at the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital.

The proposed projects are estimated to cost around $1 billion, Nasrul added.

Among the notable proposals is an LNG pipeline in Moheshkhali, which is expected to significantly enhance the country’s gas supply infrastructure. Additionally, six projects related to power transmission and distribution are included in the potential agreements.

These projects aim to improve the efficiency and reliability of the national power grid, ensuring a more stable electricity supply for both households and industries, added Nasrul Hamid.
