11 killed in Pabna, Dinajpur road accidents

Six people, including a child, were killed and 28 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in Panchbari Bazar Chackrampur area under Dinajpur Sadar Upazila in the district early on Friday.

Kotwali police station officer-in-charge (OC) Farid Hossain confirmed the matter, reports BSS.

The incident occurred when a Ranisankail-bound bus of Nabil Paribahan from Dhaka and a mango-laden truck from Dinajpur rammed into each other on the Dinajpur-Phulbari Highway in front of the Ariyan Petro pump near Panchbari Bazaar Chakrampur area around 6.30 am on Friday, leaving the truck driver and helper of the bus dead on the spot and four others succumbed to their injuries while being taken to the hospital, said Farid Hossain.

The others injured were admitted to the local M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital.
 
The vehicular movement resumed after the wrecked bus was removed from the road, he said, adding that they were trying to ascertain the identities of the deceased.

Meanwhile, five people were killed as a private car hit a roadside electric pole near Pabna Sugar Mill on the Pabna-Ishwardi highway in Ishwardi upazila in the district on Thursday night.

The deceased were Sifat Islam,17,son of Masum Ali hailed from Azampur village of Dashuria union under Ishurdi upazila; Naim Islam,16, son of Suman; car driver Bijoy Hossen,22; Shisir Mahmud,17; and Shawn,17,son of Waj Ali, hailed from Varaimary of Salimpur Union of the upazila.

Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Belal Uddin Jahangir said the accident occurred around 9pm as the Pabna-bound private car hit the electric pole after its driver lost control over the wheels, leaving three people dead on the spot and two critically injured.

Being informed, fire service and locals rushed to the spot and recovered three bodies on the spot. The two others were declared dead at hospital.

All the deceased and injured were friends, the OC added.

A case was filed with Pakshi Highway Police station in this regard.
