The 39th edition of the International Shahadat-e-Karbala Mahfil will begin at the Jamiatul Falah National Mosque in Chattogram on July 8.

According to the management committee, all necessary preparations have been completed for holding the 10-day-long Mahfil in remembrance of Ahl al-Bayt Rasool. The Mahfil will continue till July 17 at Dampara Jamiatul Falah Mosque Plaza in the port city.

Shahadat-e-Karbala Mahfil Management Committee Chairman Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman, also chairman of the PHP Family, conveyed the information at a press conference held at PHP VIP Lounge of Chattogram Press Club on Saturday.

The Mahfil will start after Asr prayer and conclude at 10 pm every day.

Islamic scholars from home and abroad will come up with their deliberations on the dedication and supreme sacrifice for Islam by the Karbala martyrs.

In the press conference, the council Chairman and prominent industrialist Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman said that love for people, not revenge, is the characteristic of the Prophet's family. They have left that example of love by sacrificing life in the Karbala battle.

"A pure heart should be discovered with knowledge. To fear Allah, that is the name of Taqwa," he added.

Highlighting the significance of the month of Muharram, Sufi Mizanur Rahman explained that it marks the beginning of the Hijri New Year and holds great historical and global importance.

He recounted the tragic events that took place in Karbala, where the innocent members of Ahle Bait, including Imam Hussain (Ra), were mercilessly martyred by the forces of Yazid, a sworn enemy of the Prophet's family, on Muharram 10 of 61 Hijri.

Anjuman Trust Secretary General Anwar Hossain, PHP Family Director (Finance) and Chief Coordinator of Mahfil Committee Ali Hossain Sohag, Jamiatul Falah Mosque Khatib Maulana Abu Taleb M Alauddin, Gausia Committee Bangladesh Chairman Pear Mohammad, and Joint Secretary Prof Kamal Uddin Ahmed among others, were present at the press conference.
