DU VC inspects damaged dorms, assures renovation

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor ASM Maksud Kamal on Friday visited several dormitories that were damaged during the clashes between quota reform movement protesters and ruling party student wings.

The DU VC inspected Ruqayyah Hall and Sir AF Rahman Hall, a press release from the university’s public relations office said.

"Approximately 300 rooms were vandalised in various dormitories during the clashes around the quota reform movement," said Professor Maksud Kamal. "The university administration has already assessed the extent of the damage. The renovation of the affected halls will proceed, pending financial approval from the University Grants Commission."

The visit was attended by DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Muhammad Samad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Sitesh Chandra Bachar, Treasurer Professor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Dhaka University Teachers Association President Professor Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan, Syndicate member Professor Abu Hossain Muhammad Ahsan, and the provosts of the dormitories.
