Former Brig Gen of Army Abdullahil Aman Azmi – the eldest son of late Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Ghulam Azam, and Mir Ahmad bin Quasem – the younger son of the executed Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali have been released from “Aynaghar.”

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, which was recently banned, made the disclosure on Tuesday in a post on their verified Facebook page.

The post reads, “Alhamdulillah! Brigadier General (former) Abdullahil Aman-al-Azmi – the privileged son of Amir Jamaat Professor Ghulam Azam Rahimahullah, is back.”

Another post said, “Alhamdulillah! Barrister Mir Ahmad bin Quasem (Arman), the privileged son of Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali Rahimahullah, is back. May Allah return all the lost among us.”

They were both arrested in August 2016. Since then they have been missing. But the family claimed they were detained.

On Tuesday, relatives of the missing gathered in front of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) seeking information about their near and dear ones. At that time, they wanted to know about the detainees in “Aynaghar.”

However, the DGFI authorities have assured that they will be informed about this on Wednesday morning.

The same day, in front of the DGFI head office located inside the cantonment at Mirpur-14, relatives of the missing stood under the banner of “Mayer Daak,” an organisation made up of families of those who went missing during the Awami League government.

Speaking to The Business Post, Mayer Daak Co-founder Sanjida Islam Tulee, “We have known from recently released ex-army officers Azmi and Mir Ahmad that there are many others in Aynaghar.

“We went to the DGFI office to find out more about the detainees there, and to speak about the release of prisoners together to their respective families, instead of being released separately.”

She added, “We have had a meeting with DGFI Director (Admin) Azmin Tamjid. He has assured us that he will inform us about this tomorrow [Wednesday].”

Huma Khan, Senior Human Rights Advisor of the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh; Gwen Lewis, UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh; eminent photojournalist Shahidul Alam; and women's rights leader Shireen Haque also visited the DGFI headquarters.
