Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Col (retd) Oli Ahmad Bir Bikram on Thursday said Awami League should be banned as an autocratic and terrorist organisation.

"After the fall of the dictator, it is time for all to be united irrespective of caste, religion and political identity. The registration of Awami League as a dictatorial and terrorist organization will have to be cancelled and it will have to be banned," he said.

Oli Ahmad came up with this remark at a press conference at the LDP central office in the city's Moghbazar area.

He said compensation should be given to the families of martyrs and injured in the recent movement that toppled the Sheikh Hasina government. Their families should be compensated and rehabilitated and the injured persons should be given proper medical treatments, he said.

The veteran politician extended a sincere greeting in advance to the new interim government, which is set to be formed and headed by led by Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus on Thursday night.

He also wished the success of the interim government in discharging its duties to be bestowed upon the new government.

The LDP President demanded all false cases filed since 2009 against those who were the victims of political vendettas must be withdrawn and such arrestees and detainees must be released immediately.

He said a list of abducted, killed and forcibly disappeared persons, including former lawmaker M Ilias Ali, must be prepared to ensure justice for these crimes.

"An independent inquiry commission should be constituted (in this government)," he said.

The gallant freedom fighter said the list of freedom fighters must be revised by cancelling the names of those who were illegally and unreasonably incorporated in the list after 1996.

He said arrangements should be made to ensure that no accused person can escape or criminals can enter the country through land, water or airway.

He said all accused and fugitives associated with the dictatorial government should be arrested based on proper information and their illegal properties should be seized. The international community should be asked to send back the assets smuggled abroad, he added.

The LDP President said Sheikh Hasina should be brought back to the country to face trial as soon as a suitable environment is created.

A clear timetable must be fixed for holding national elections within six months and at least the next 4 national elections must be held under a caretaker government system, he said.

Citing that a committee should be formed to amend the constitution, Oli Ahmad said no person can hold the post of prime minister and the top executive post of any institution of the republic (including educational institutions) for more than two terms.
