Law ministry to withdraw cases, support victims

The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs has decided to withdraw cases filed over unlawful activities, including acts of violence, committed during the Boishommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon’s anti-quota movement.

The decision came in a meeting between interim government adviser Dr Asif Nazrul and officials of the Law and Justice Division on Saturday, reports Amader Shomoy.

These decisions are –

  1. Steps will be taken to speedily bring to justice those involved in the killings that took place during the July-August period in a bid to suppress the mass movement of students.
  2. Necessary measures will be taken to withdraw criminal cases filed to suppress the mass movement of students from last July 1 to August 5, 2024, within the next three working days.
  3. Steps will be taken to release the children and adolescents, detained in the child and adolescent development centres on false cases, within the next three working days.
  4. Steps will be taken for expeditious withdrawal of false cases filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act and Cyber ​​Security Act.
  5. Steps will be taken to provide support to victims in false cases on the Law and Justice Division hotline: 16430.
