The Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection (DNCRP) has intensified its monitoring of kitchen markets to ensure stable supply and prices amid ongoing unrest.

In a bid to maintain control over essential commodity prices, DNCRP, under the Commerce Ministry, is conducting daily inspections in wholesale and retail markets, with support from students involved in the anti-discrimination movement.

On Saturday, DNCRP Director General AHM Safiquzzaman led an on-site inspection at Shah Ali Market in Mirpur, Dhaka, alongside officials from the directorate's head office, Dhaka divisional office, and Dhaka district office along with 10 members of the student movement, including coordinator Md Farhan Atif Lumin from the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh.

Other students and the president and general secretary of the Shah Ali Market Traders Association also took part in the initiative.

Market surveillance showed a reduction in transportation costs for essential commodities, with stock levels remaining stable. During the inspection, DNCRP officials discussed pricing and supply with wholesaler and retailers.

DG Safiquzzaman praised the involvement of students in market monitoring, noting their role in raising awareness. He stressed the importance of continued vigilance to prevent hidden charges, including extortion.

Fake price list

Earlier, the DNCRP officials informed that a list circulating on social media platform Facebook under the name "Government Market Price List" of daily commodities is neither real nor accurate. This clarification was posted on the directorate's official Facebook page on Saturday.

AHM Safiquzzaman, the director general, stated that a market price list related to various daily essential products has been falsely attributed to the government and is being shared on social media.

He emphasised that the prices mentioned in this list have not been officially fixed by the government. The directorate has urged consumers to be cautious of such misleading information.
