Explosion at UAE Embassy in capital leaves 1 dead, 7 injured

An air conditioner compressor exploded on Wednesday at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Gulshan area of Dhaka, killing one person and injuring at least seven more.

The explosion took place around 1.45pm in the visa processing centre of the Embassy situated on the ground floor of the Imperial Financial Building in Gulshan-2.

Officer in charge (operations) of Gulshan police station Shahnoor Rahman confirmed the incident to the media, saying one person was killed due to the explosion.

Two fire service units, along with bomb disposal team, rushed to spot on the information of the blast, said Rasel Shikder, a duty officer of the fire service control room.

The injured have been taken to United Hospital for treatment.

The victims could not be identified immediately. The deceased appeared to be a 35-year old male, according to fire service sources.

It was not immediately possible to determine the cause of the AC explosion or the scale of the damage because of it.
