The High Court has fixed next Sunday for hearing on a writ seeking to ban the Bangladesh Awami League and cancel its registration as a party, for its alleged involvement with indiscriminate killing of students during the Boishommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon movement.

The bench of justices AKM Asaduzzaman and Md Mahbubul ul Islam fixed the date after deferring the hearing scheduled to take place on Thursday. Writ petitioner Arifur Rahman Murad Bhuiyan attended the hearing.

In the writ, directions have been sought to change the name of institutions which are in Sheikh Hasina's name. The petition also sought a minimum three-year term for the current interim government to reform the country.

Along with this, the writ sought directions to bring back Tk 11 lakh crores that have been smuggled abroad, and transfer the officials who were appointed on contractual basis during the previous Awami League government.

Writ petitioner lawyer Arifur Rahman Murad Bhuiyan had earlier said the High Court’s rule and order has been sought in these matters.
