29.4 lakh affected, 2 killed in sudden floods

Sudden floods have severely affected 357 unions under eight districts of the country, leaving 4,40,840 families marooned. The total number of affected people is 29,04,964, and two have died till date – one in Feni, another in Brahmanbaria.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Additional Secretary KM Ali Reza made the disclosure at a press conference held in the secretariat on Thursday.

He added that 1,534 shelters have been opened so far, and more than 75,000 people have taken shelter at those centres.

Meanwhile, a control room has been opened at the Bangladesh Secretariat in the Ministry of Water Resources to monitor the overall flood situation and collect relevant data. The control room hotline is 01318234560.
