Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Farooq-e Azam said his government is mobilizing its best efforts to protect the lives of the people in the flood-affected areas.

"We're engaging our all efforts to save the lives of the masses," he said in a press conference in the ministry's conference room at the Secretariat, reports BSS.

The adviser said they have been trying their best to make contact with the flood-affected people as part of the efforts to save the lives of the commoners.

He said that the interim government is mobilizing the best efforts to protect the lives of the people engaging the army, navy, coast guard and other voluntary organisations in Feni and Noakhali that were badly affected by the ongoing flash flood.

"We have made our best preparations to provide food and cash as a relief. We will take a rehabilitation programme soon after the flood water starts receding," he assured.

In reply to a question about whether they had any forecast about the ongoing flood, Azam said, "No, we don't know about it. It is a flash flood.

Responding to another question about opening embankments by India, he said that communication is being made to know the matter.

"I am not confirming that. But, I have heard that the embankment was opened on that side. I don't know it in detail officially," he added.
