Hasina now being sued over college student killing

A case has been filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, along with 126 named and 250-300 unnamed accused, over the murder of college student Abdul Ahad Saikat, 17, during the Boishommo Birdohi Chhatra Andolon movement. 

The victim’s father Nazrul Islam filed the case with Savar Model Police Station on Thursday night. The 11th class student of Dhaka Commerce College lived with his family in Savar Municipal area.

In the case, the accused are - former prime minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina (76), Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader (72), former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal (75), former state minister for information and broadcasting Mohammad A Arafat (50), former state minister for disaster management and relief Dr Enamur Rahman (72), former Savar upazila chairman Manjurul Alam Rajib (55), former mayor Haji Abdul Gani (72), 2nd ward councilor Nazrul Islam Manik Molla (65), Tentuljora Union Parishad chairman Fakhrul Alam Samar (50), Birulia Union Former Chairman of Parishad Saidur Rahman Sujan (45), Former Chairman of Birulia Union Parishad Salim Mondal (47), Former Chairman of Savar Sadar Union Sohel Rana (42), Chairman of Vakurta Union Liakat Hossain (55), Ashulia Thana Awami League President Farooq Hasan Tuhin ( 48), Mazharul Islam Rubel (37).

In addition, the former state minister for relief Dr Enamur Rahman's APS Shamim Ahmed (50), Savar Upazila Chhatra League President Atiqur Rahman Atiq (35), Raju Ahmed (35), Mobarak Hossain Khan Palak (28), Md Abdul Quddus (36), Kamrul Hasan Shaheen (48), Mehdi Hasan Tushar (45), Sayem Molla (47), Abdur Rob (44), Raju Molla (32), Zakir Hossain alias Mama Zakir (38), Md Israfil, Raihan Islam Ripon (28), Masum Dewan (25), Hasan Ali (48), Hriday Sarkar, Jiban Sarkar, Ahmed Faisal Naeem Turya (30), Pavel alias Totla Pavel (35), Abdur Razzak (50), Prabal (45), Haji Md Abbas Ali (60), Md Habij Uddin (55), Hannan Mia (45), Md Raja Mia (40), Md. According to the case document, on August 5, Abdul Ahad Saikat came to Savar police station in Muktimore area during the quota reform movement. There, he joined the student movement, standing united for the logical demands of the students. 

At that time, Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League and its associate organisations’ leaders and activists attacked the protesters under the direct and indirect order and instigation of the accused.

They chased the protesting students with firearms and local weapons and shot at them. At that time, Abdul Ahad Saikat was shot in different parts of his body, including his head.

He was later rescued while bleeding profusely, and taken to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar where the on duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Savar Model Police Station Zahurul Islam, the investigating officer of the case, said that the family of the victim has filed a case against 126 others.
