Former judge of Appellate Division AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik has been detained. The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) nabbed him from the Kanaighat border in Sylhet while crossing illegally on Friday night.

Confirming the matter, BGB 19 Battalion Captain Lt Col Asad Un Nabi said, “A person tried to cross into India illegally at Dona border area of ​​Kanaighat upazila around 9pm. At that time BGB members on patrol detained him. 

“Later, during interrogation, we learned that he is former judge Shamsuddin Manik.”

On Thursday, a case was filed against ex-justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, former lawmaker and JSD President Hasanul Haque Inu, and Bangladesh Workers Party President and former minister Rashed Khan Menon for allegedly making derogatory comments against BNP founder Ziaur Rahman's family.
