Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur has demanded the arrest of perpetrators of the recent killing in Gopalganj district within the next seven days.

“Sheikh Hasina fled the country but her cohorts are still active. They carried out killing in Gopalganj. All those involved in the Gopalganj killing must be arrested by the next one week,” he told a discussion at Gono Odhikar Parishad’s office on Sunday.

Nur added: “Being organized, this Gopalganj’s terrorists (earlier) launched an attack on the army which is a shameful incident. If they are not punished, large-scale negative incident may happen in future.”

Citing media reports he said among the newly appointed deputy commissioners, 56 were beneficiaries of the past Awami League government. Keeping them in administration, reforms of the country cannot be possible, he added.

Nur said the student-people have brought an opportunity to build the country afresh and the youths must complete their unfinished task for the greater national interest.

Nur, a former DUCSU Vice-President, urged the youth organizations to work for building the country in unison.

Noting that at least 150 youth MPs should be in parliament in future, he said currently a citizen needs to be a minimum 25-year-old to take part in MP election.

He demanded reducing the age limit to 21 years to bring scopes for the youths to become Member of Parliament (MPs).

Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan said it is not possible to make state reforms after rehabilitating Awami League.  Awami beneficiaries are getting appointed in different positions after removing other beneficiaries of the party, he alleged.

He demanded the inclusion of more people in the advisory council of the interim government as it should have at least 50 members.

Later, Bangladesh Jubo Odhikar Parishad, the youth wing of Gono Odhikar Parishad placed a 7-point proposal for lessening unemployment crisis of the country.

Jubo Odhikar Parishad Organising Secretary Muntajul Islam placed the proposals, which are-

First, All forms of discrimination-free employment and jobs should be given constitutional recognition as a fundamental right and its implementation should be prioritized. Regular unemployment survey reports should be published every year.

Second, Priority should be given to the formulation and implementation of demand-based and vocational education systems at all levels of education. Effective steps should be taken to make the youth skilled in the ICT sector.

Third, All types of jobs should be free of application fees, illegal recommendations, security money and age limits. All unfair recruitment processes like bribery and corruption should be stopped and discrimination in government and private jobs should be ended.

Fourth, At the local level, training centres should be created under government management and local production systems should be strengthened. The production and international market system of the country's local products should be created by involving the youth forces.

Fifth, Providing interest-free loans on education and training certificate collateral, and self-employment should be given priority to educated and dropped-out people at different levels of education. Small and medium entrepreneurs should be provided 50 per cent of the country's total lending. If required, all youth excluding those who are under work and debt coverage should be paid unemployment allowance for a specific period.

Sixth, All disabled people in the country should be brought under hundred per cent jobs and employment coverage. Those who are outside the scope of employment and jobs should be paid an appropriate amount of allowance.

Seventh, To export manpower abroad, the government should provide international standard training and send the trained people abroad under the state financing or interest-free loan facility. Free employment opportunities should be created for the youth abroad based on merit and skill.

Education, medical care and safety should be ensured for their family members staying in the country. Ending third-party involvement in migration, the country’s missions abroad should be expatriate-friendly and corruption-free. Expatriates should be guaranteed the right to vote in all national and local elections while in exile. Important Citizen (VIP) status must be ensured at every level of sending abroad.
