One hundred and ninety four “deprived” officials, in 25 cadres except administration, are seeking promotions to the joint secretary position.
A delegation of such officials met the ministry of public administration senior secretary and later Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain in this regard on Tuesday.
The “deprived” officials said they received only assurances, while the administration cadre officials have already been promoted in phases. They claimed that the public administration ministry officials are stonewalling the “deprived” officials who are pressing for promotion.
Nurul Amin, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs who claimed to be deprived, said, “We are 194 deprived deputy secretaries under 25 cadres, except the administration cadre of BCS 13 to 22nd batch.
“Many who became deputy secretaries with us have already been promoted to the posts of joint secretaries and additional secretaries. We have held several meetings with the Ministry of Public Administration officials. We explained the rationale of our promotion, and they agreed.”
Even though everything is ready, the public administration ministry is delaying the SSB meeting without reason, he claimed.
Meanwhile, Finance Department Deputy Secretary Zahid Hossain said, “We went to see the public administration ministry senior secretary and told him everything. He then said that the president of SSB is the cabinet secretary.
“If you give me a date, I will organise a meeting on that day.”
He continued, “We then went to the cabinet secretary. He told us that if the public administration secretary wants time, I will give him time. When we told this to the public administration secretary again today, he said that you do not know the system.
“When we told this again to the cabinet secretary, he said he had already mentioned the rule. I do not know if he is ready or not, I will give him time if he wants time. We are thus running between these two officials.”
Deputy Secretary Zahid Hossain added, “The cabinet secretary has advised us to speak to the public administration secretary again about our issues, adding that he is ready to give us time.”
