A total of 84 individuals have been arrested and 185 firearms recovered during a nationwide joint forces’ operation, according to the Police Headquarters on Thursday.

The operation, which began on September 4, aims to recover firearms and ammunition not deposited at police stations under suspended licenses, as well as weapons recently looted from police stations and other locations.

The confiscated firearms include 11 revolvers, 56 pistols, 11 rifles, 25 shotguns, five pipe guns, 20 shotguns, 13 LG guns, 25 guns, one AK-47, two gas guns, one Chinese rifle, three air guns, two tear gas launchers, four SMGs, four SBBLs, and two three-quarters.

On August 25, the home ministry suspended firearm licenses issued to civilians over the last 15 years under the Awami League government.

A circular issued on September 1 ordered a joint operation comprising the armed forces, BGB, Coast Guard, Police, RAB, and Ansar to recover illegal and looted firearms.
