Appoint non-paid experts for good governance: Speakers

The Anti-corruption National Coordinating Committee held a meeting on Sunday discussing amendment to the constitution and elimination of corruption. This event was organised at the Dhaka University’s Mozaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium last Friday.

Sarwar Wadud Chowdhury, spokesperson of the committee, presided over the event, while Prof Maimul Ahsan Khan presented the keynote.

Addressing the discussion, Sarwar Wadud Chowdhury recommended Chief Advisor to the interim government Dr Muhammad Yunus to appoint an unpaid team of ten honest experts to ensure corruption-free and good governance in every ministry, following the examples of Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew and Malaysia's Mahathir bin Mohammed.

Recommending immediate arrest of corrupt culprits and building of a corruption-free Bangladesh, Chowdhury presented 11-point demand:

  1. Practicing free democracy and establishing the rule of law
  2. Law and Justice Division
  3. Development of state banks and financial institutions
  4. Reorganization of Anti-Corruption Commission
  5. Formation of Independent Election Commission
  6. Sustainable development of education system
  7. Reorganization of Public Service Commission
  8. Development in RMG and export sectors
  9. Constitutional amendments and reforms
  10. Reformation of political parties
  11. Formation of investigation commission

National personality Qayyum Reza Chowdhury, Dewan Sultan Ahmed, Major General (retd) Amsa A Amin, Prof Dr Syed Md Shamsuddin, Dr Engineer Anwar, Dr Lutfur Rahman, Dr Fazlul Haque, Prof Dr Ferdowsi Begum, Dr Jahangir Alam Rustam, Prof Dr Alhaj Sharif Saki, Setara Rezvi Lucky, Manwar Shamsi, Advocate Moazzem, Mohammad Shah Alam, Shamim Ishtiaq Chowdhury, and Mirza Azam also spoke on the occasion.
