Rains likely to drench country in next 24hr: BMD

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain or thundershowers in all divisions including Dhaka of the country in 24 hours commencing 9am on Wednesday.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country,” said a met office update.

The country’s highest 107 millimetres of rainfall was recorded in Nilphamari’s Dimla in 24 hours till 6am on Wednesday.

Day temperature may fall by (2-5) degrees Celsius and night temperature may fall by (1-2) degrees Celsius over the country, according to the BMD.

The country’s highest temperature was recorded in Netrokona at 36 degrees Celsius over the past 24 hours till 6pm on Tuesday while the lowest temperature 24.3 degrees Celsius was recorded in Dimla and Khulna’s Koyra upazila till 6am on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the low-pressure area over Westcentral Bay and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal persists. The axis of the monsoon trough runs through Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, centre of the low to Assam across Bangladesh. Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and strong over North Bay.
