BRAC employees have donated Tk 53.6 crore (53,645,520) from their one day's salary to aid the rehabilitation of communities affected by recent flash floods in 11 districts across the Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.

This fund will support long-term recovery efforts, focusing on food security, healthcare, safe water supply, sanitation, hygiene, education, and agricultural development, while also bolstering ongoing emergency relief operations, according to a press release.

As of Wednesday, BRAC has delivered critical relief, including food and safe drinking water, to nearly 127,000 families. The relief efforts were financed through BRAC's own funds and contributions from donor agencies, organisations, and individual donors. More than 5,000 BRAC employees have been working tirelessly to assist severely impacted and remote communities.

From August 27 to September 25, BRAC established 637 medical camps in Cumilla, Feni, Lakshmipur, Noakhali, and Chattogram, providing emergency healthcare to approximately 100,447 people.

Among them were 10,936 children under the age of five and 411 individuals with disabilities. BRAC also supported four government hospitals in flood-affected districts, helping to provide healthcare services to 14,588 people. Additionally, over 10,600 tube wells were disinfected, ensuring safe drinking water for more than 90,000 people.

The funds raised by BRAC employees will play a vital role in addressing both immediate and long-term rehabilitation needs. In the agricultural sector, farmers will be supported to resume cultivation and purchase livestock to help restore their livelihoods. Displaced families will be assisted in rebuilding secure, permanent homes, the release added.

BRAC will also focus on repairing damaged educational institutions to facilitate the return of students to classrooms and prevent disruption to their education. Furthermore, cash assistance will be provided to help affected families recover and return to normal life.
