Artisans are busy making idols of goddess Durga as people from the Hindu community in the district are going to celebrate the five-day Durga puja, the biggest religious festival of the community, from October 9.

Artisans are now working to finish the erection of idols of goddess Durga with their ingenuity and colours to give those more stunning looks, reports BSS.

According to the local leaders of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad (BPUP), the celebrations of the puja will begin on October 9 and end on October 13 with the immersion of the idols of goddess Durga in water bodies.

According to the Deputy Commissioner's office, Durga Puja will be celebrated at a total of 156 mandaps, in which 59 mandops in sadar upazila, 46 mandops in Shibganj upazila, 32 mandops in Gomostapur upazila, 16 mandops in Nachole upazila and three mandops in Bholahat upazila.

The district administration has allocated 500 kgs of rice for each mandap.

Besides, Tk 1,98,000 has been allocated from the Chief Advisor's Relief and Welfare fund for 54 mandaps, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ahmed Mahbub-Ul-Islam said.

Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chapainawabganj Md Rezaul Karim said tight security measures have been taken so that the devotees can perform all religious rituals and can visit mandops peacefully.

Members of Ansar would be deployed at all the mandops. Police forces would be on patrol duty and the members of the Army, BGB and RAB would work as striking forces, he said.

No untoward incident has occurred anywhere in the district till now as law enforcement agencies are putting constant vigilance across the district like elsewhere in the country, he added.

With a view to ensuring communal harmony during the celebration of Durga Puja, Convener of the Chapainawabganj district unit of BNP Md. Golam Zakaria held exchange-view meeting with Hindu leaders on Tuesday.

Dablu Kumar Ghosh, President of the Chapainawabganj district unit of Puja Udjapan Parishad, expressed satisfaction regarding the measures taken by district administration, police administration and other authorities concerned.
