Speakers under the banner of non-government college teachers and principals alliances on Friday demanded to keep the educational institutions free from political influence aiming to enhance the standards of education.

"We want recruitment of skilled teachers at the educational institutions," said Prof Md Mazharul Hannan, president of Bangladesh Principal Parishad.

The association leaders made the demand while speaking at a press conference organised by the Bangladesh College Teachers Association and Bangladesh Principal Parishad at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), reports BSS.

Demanding to give promotion to meritorious teachers in educational institutions, they said the teachers cannot work in educational institutions independently due to political influence.

Incidents of political influence always happen during the tenures of all governments, they said, adding the practice should be stopped.

The teachers placed a 9-point demand, including raising salaries and other benefits of the non-government teachers, equivalent to the teachers working at government education institutions, reforming manpower structure of the non-government institutions like government colleges and introducing full-fledged pension system.

President of Bangladesh Principal Parishad professor Md. Mazharul Hannan read the speech at the press conference while president of Bangladesh College Teachers Association principal Md Ishak Hossain, principal Rezaul Karim and principal Shahidun Nahar, professor Liaquat Ali, professor Syed Muhammad Yunus, professor Elim Md Nazmul Hossain, professor Rofika Afroz and professor Zahir Uddin Azam, were present.
