Health officials, employees and other concerns of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) have been urged to play a responsible role in building a healthy and strong future generation.

Simultaneously, they should be enriched with competence and technology-based learning to provide primary healthcare services to the citizens properly.

RCC Administrator and Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir made the call while inaugurating a two-day refresher workshop in the city today as chief guest.

RCC organised the workshop titled "Geographic Information System (GIS) based Mapping and Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) Micro-planning" at Shah Dine Convention Hall in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO).

With RCC Chief Executive Officer Dr ABM Sharif Uddin in the chair, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Divisional Director of Health Dr Anwarul Kabir and RCC Chief Health Officer Dr AFM Anjuman Ara Begum.

WHO Divisional Coordinator Dr Muhammad Kamruzzaman, GIS National Consultant Hamidur Rashid WHO Surveillance Immunization Medical Officer Dr Farhana and IT Specialist Istiaque Ali also spoke.

Administrator Dr Humayun Kabir said all sorts of information related to ward and block digital maps, ward and block-based vaccination coverage, dropout children and vaccination centres will be available through the GIS micro planning.

He clarified that the GIS is a computer system that analyzes and displays geographically referenced information. It uses data that is attached to a unique location.

Besides, the EPI, an initiative launched by the WHO, stands as a global endeavour to ensure equitable access to life-saving vaccines for every child, regardless of their geographic location or socioeconomic status.
