Rain likely to drench country: BMD

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain or thundershowers in all divisions including Dhaka in 24 hours commencing 9am on Sunday.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely at many places over Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi Rangpur and Dhaka divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions,” said a met office update.

The country’s highest 164-millimetre rainfall was recorded in Kurigram’s Rajarhat upazila in 24 hours till 6am on Sunday.

Day and night temperatures may rise slightly over the country, according to the BMD.

The country’s highest temperature was recorded in Rajshahi at 34.4 degrees Celsius over the past 24 hours till 6pm on Saturday while the lowest temperature 23.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Rajarhat till 6am on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the low-pressure area over North Bay of Bengal & adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh has become unimportant and merged with the monsoon axis.

Monsoon trough runs through Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh. Monsoons are fairly active in Bangladesh and moderately active in North Bay.
