The results of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations held under 11 education boards of the country were published on Tuesday as a total of 77.78 per cent students passed this year.

Of them, a total of 1,45,911 candidates—64,978 male and 80,993 female-- got GPA-5 (maximum grade point average) in the examinations, according to the results published around 11am on Tuesday.

A number of 13,31,058 examinees appeared in the HSC and equivalent examinations this year. Of them, 10,35,309 students have been successful.

Under nine general education, a total of 1,31,376 students achieved GPA-5 while 9,613 students under the madrasah education board and 4,922 under technical education board.

The pass rate in nine general boards is 75.56 per cent, while 93.40 per cent in Madrasa board and 88.09 per cent in Technical board.

Among the nine general educational boards, Sylhet Board secured the top position with 85.38 per cent pass rate in the examinations.

The pass rate of Barishal Board is 81.85, while 81.24 per cent in Rajshahi, 79.21 per cent in Dhaka, 77.56 per cent in Dinajpur, 71.15 per cent in Cumilla, 70.32 per cent in Chattogram, 64.29 per cent in Jashore, and 63.22 per cent in Mymensingh.

A total of 1,388 educational institutions out of 9,197 achieved 100 per cent pass rate, which was 953 in 2023, while no student from 65 educational institutions under eight of 11 education boards failed to be successful in the examinations.

As per the education ministry's decision, the students have been evaluated through the subject mapping method based on the SSC results for those subjects whose exams did not take place due to the student-led mass upsurge.

Students will be able to get their results through SMS and official websites or can download their individual result sheets using their roll and registration numbers from the website.

Visiting the Dhaka Education Board website (www.dhakaeducationboard.gov.bd), (www.educationboardresults.gov.bd), or (www.eduboardresults.gov.bd), and clicking on the "Result" section, institutions can download the result sheets inserting their EIIN number.

Sylhet Board leads with record 85.39% pass rate

The Sylhet Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board delivered an unexpected boost in this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination results, achieving the highest pass rate among the nine general education boards in Bangladesh.

The board reported a remarkable pass rate of 85.39 per cent, up significantly from last year's 73.7 per cent-a nearly 12 per cent increase.

Girls have outshone boys across the board in this year's HSC results. Of the 49,354 female candidates, 86.04 per cent passed, with 3,829 achieving the coveted GPA-5. In comparison, 33,811 boys appeared for the exams, with a pass rate of 83.85 per cent.

Among them, 2,869 secured GPA-5, a noticeable gap in top scorers between genders.

In terms of absolute numbers, Sylhet saw a record 6,698 students earn GPA-5 this year, a dramatic rise from just 1,699 in 2022.

Record-Breaking Performance for Sylhet Board

Sylhet's overall performance in the HSC exams highlights significant improvement. The board saw 83,156 candidates, with 71,012 passing the exam-a notable achievement. The pass rate of 85.39 per cent represents a 13.77 per cent increase over the previous year's 71.62 per cent.

This places Sylhet ahead of the other general education boards, a substantial leap from previous years.

According to Professor Tapan Kumar Sarker, president of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, the pass rate for the Madrasha Board's Alim examination stood at an impressive 93.40 per cent, while the Technical Board recorded an 88.09 per cent pass rate.
