NU exam postponement: 10 students detained at protest in Shahbagh

Police claimed to have foiled an attempt by the National University (NU) students to block the capital’s Shahbagh intersection on Thursday, as part of their protest against the government decision of exam postponement.

10 of the students were detained while ruffling in the area.

“They have been taken to custody,” said Sazzadur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Ramna zone.

Shahbagh police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mamunur Rashid said the students were asked to leave the roads. But they started arguing with the police members and afterwards carried out an attack on them.

Earlier on February 22, the NU authorities postponed all sorts of examinations until further notice citing the coronavirus pandemic.

On the same day, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said the government decided to reopen the residential halls of all universities on May 17 and resume classes on May 24. The Ministry of Education issued a directive to keep all the examinations postponed till then.

"Before reopening, the teachers, students and employees will be vaccinated," she said further.
