Singer Jane Alam passes away

Veteran singer Jane Alam passed away at a hospital in the capital city on Tuesday night.

He was 65.

He breathed his last around 10 pm while undergoing treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital.

Zahirul Islam Sohel, owner of record label CD Choice, confirmed the matter to the media.

“He was infected with coronavirus one month ago. Though he tested negative for the virus later, he was diagnosed with various diseases including pneumonia,” said Sohel.

The singer was undergoing treatment at the BSMMU Hospital for one month. As his condition degraded, he was put on life support Tuesday where he died, added the CD Choice owner.

Jane Alam will be buried at his family graveyard in Harirampur upazila of Manikganj Wednesday, said SK Shahed Ali Pappu, secretary general of the Music Industries Owners Association of Bangladesh (MIB).

Born in Manikganj's Harirampur, Jane Alam has as many as 4,000 songs as a singer. Besides, he wrote lyrics, tuned and directed music for around 3,000 songs for many other singers of the country.
