Bangladesh women cricketers get Test status

Bangladesh women’s cricket team was granted Test status along with some other full members of the International Cricket Council, said an official.

Bangladesh Cricket Board chief executive officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury told The Business Post that the decision was finalised in the meeting of the council’s cricket committee, held virtually on Thursday.

“This is a very good news for our girls. From now on all matches of Bangladesh women’s cricket team will be considered as Test,” he said.

“It was decided that Test and ODI status shall be permanently awarded to all full member women’s teams,” an ICC press release said earlier on Thursday.

The decision means Zimbabwe and Afghanistan women’s teams will also get Test status along with Bangladesh.

They will be respectively 11th, 12th, and 13th nation to play Test cricket.

The Netherlands is the only country to play women’s Test cricket despite not being a full member of the ICC.
