Singer Indra Mohan Rajbongshi dies of COVID-19

Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra musician Indra Mohan Rajbongshi died from novel coronavirus infection at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in Dhaka on Wednesday.

The Ekushey Padak winner breathed his last around 11am while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Folk singer Fakir Alamgir confirmed the matter to media.

Having worked as a playback singer and lyricist in a number of short and feature films in Dhaka and Kolkata, Rajbongshi was a popular character in the film industry.

In the early 1950s’, Rajbongshi started to learn music from his grandfather Krishna Das Rajbongshi.

In 1998, Rajbongshi established a folk organisation, Bangladesh Lok Sangeet Parishad (Folk Song Council).

He wrote about 100 folk songs for children, songs on the Liberation War and the Language Movement.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Indramohan Rajbangshi, reports UNB.

In a condolence message, she said that the contribution of the Ekushey Padak winning brilliant singer in flourishing the country's folksongs will be remembered.

She prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
