Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder and trustee Zafrullah Chowdhury in an open letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has highlighted 11 ‘urgent duties’ for the government to contain the surge of Covid-19 infection.

Gonoshasthaya's press adviser Jahangir Alam Mintu submitted the letter to the Prime Minister's Office on Monday on behalf of Zafrullah.

According to the press release, Gonoshasthaya founder called for the repeal of all sorts of duties, Advance Income Tax (AIT), Value Added Tax etc on oxygen, medicines and medical equipment and materials through Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO).

He also called for emergency training of doctors, nurses, and paramedics for ICU management, as part of the eleven urgent duties.

Zafrullah Chowdhury in the open letter also stated the formation of a Gonoshasthaya mobile COVID medical team in the capital.

The medical team will provide affordable advanced treatment to 1,000 COVID-19 patients every two weeks, he mentioned in the letter.
