BTRC reminds telcos about option to bar promo SMS

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission has reminded telecom operators to make aware their subscribers how to block promotional SMS if they feel it unsolicited to them.

Mobile operators in the country often send SMS to customers to inform them about their latest offers or packages. These messages can be a source of annoyance for the subscribers. However, every operator has a 'Do Not Disturb' service to block these messages.

In a notice on Saturday, BTRC suggested the subscribers to use some USSD codes if they do not want to receive promotional SMS on their mobile phone.

The DND Service for blocking promotional SMS can be accessed by dialing the following USSD codes.

For Grameenphone type: *121*1101#
For Banglalink type: *121*8*6#
For Robi and Airtel type: *7#
