5 hurt in BCL infighting at CMC

At least five leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were injured in a clash between two factions of Chattogram Medical College (CMC) unit BCL over a trifling matter on the campus on Tuesday night.

An altercation ensued between the supporters of two BCL factions-- one led by AJM Nasir while another by Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel-- over satire on a supporter of another group in front of the main gate of the campus, said Deputy Commissioner Mokhlesur Rahman of Chattogram Metropolitan Police.

At one stage, a scuffle took place between them triggering a chase and counter chase that left five people injured.

On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control.

Additional police have been deployed to avoid further trouble.
