Story of the popular bride of 'Naya Damand'

Khadija Islam Suchona, a fifth-year student of Khulna Medical College, became popular on social networking platforms by dancing to a Sylheti folk song titled ‘Naya Damand’ in her pre-wedding shoot.

Suchona is seen in white saree along with her mother and friends dancing to the tune. While recording the video, Suchona had no inkling that she is going to be famous soon.

The video taken on March 15 was uploaded on 'Chayachobi’ productions’ facebook page the next day and quickly went viral among netizens riding on the sweet tune of the folk song and lyric composed of Sylheti dialect.

The song by Toshiba and Muza also became very popular in Tiktok and Likee following Suchona’s dance performance to the song.

She said it was just the night before the shoot when they were chilling and Naya Damand was playing somewhere in the house. Her relatives and friends present at the house immediately had an idea of dancing to the tune and also shoot it. After some practice in the morning everyone went to the roof top of the house wearing white clothes with color prints the next day.

Suchona, along with her mother, Parul Akhter, danced with the song while her sisters and friends are seen moving to the tune in the background.

The video was viewed a million times within hours of being uploaded by producer Sunny Rahman.

The next day when Suchana was still busy with another pre-wedding celebration everyone around her roared with ‘you are a hit’. She also became popular among adults and children at her in-law’s house.

‘I am getting a lot of appreciation from seniors and juniors at my medical college and like everyone else, they love the video,” Suchona said.

Netizens too are sending her greetings online gearing her up to continue doing what she has just started. Suchona said she wants to enjoy the sudden fame and avoid all the negative comments about her performance to the rendition of the song.

The original lyric of the folk song was done by Dibyamoyee Das, wife of poet Roshik Lal and the mother of Ekushey Padak winners Pandit Ramkanai Das and Sushma Das. Yarun Nesa performed the song on radio between 1972 and 1973.
