Bongo aims at global play, marks viewership in 179 countries

With the pandemic keeping people indoors amid safety concerns and the digital-only video becoming the key of entertainment, Bongo – an over-the-top platform of digital entertainment firm BongoBD, is aiming to play global with its growing number of viewers.

Bongo has got its wide catalogue of content watched by audiences in 179 countries with newly reached far reaching countries like French Polynesia, Togo, Eriteria, Djbouti, Vanuatu, and Lesotho.

Earlier, the company registered its viewer base in 100 countries across the globe by the end of 2020.

The streamer said that it had 2.5 million monthly active users as of April 29 on its OTT platform. Its viewer base has reached 15-million milestone across its OTT platform, YouTube channels and Facebook.

According to data provided by the company, the entire Bongo network boasts more than 100 million viewers across all of its platforms and partners.

Talking to The Business Post, Fayaz Taher, chief operating officer at Bongo, said that they were now working on localising Bangla contents with subtitles in multiple language to take them beyond Bangladeshi diaspora. Meanwhile, many Bangla movies and dramas were done with subtitles, he added.

“We are now looking for introducing wings in South Africa and Middle Eastern countries,” said the Bongo COO adding that Nepalflix, BongoBD’s OTT wing in Nepal, is currently under construction and would be launched this year which was delayed for the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

Being the first ever video-on-demand service in Bangladesh, Bongo has millions of hours of video content comprised of award-winning TV shows, blockbuster movies, web series, originals, dramas, music videos, documentaries, recipes, live TV channels and other premium video contents to cater for the audience
