Bangladesh HC in Canada holds webinar on women, security and peace

Bangladesh High Commission and Bangabandhu Center for Bangladesh Studies in Canada jointly organised a webinar titled ‘’women, security and peace building a 21st century perspective’’ on 7 May.

The participants highly appreciated the role of Bangladesh in women empowerment to implement Sustainable Development Goal.

Acknowledging Canada’s partnership in women’s economic empowerment in Bangladesh, Bangladesh’s high commissioner to Canada Khalilur Rahman, also chief patron of BCBS, emphasised that extending the duty-free access of Bangladeshi exports, especially ready-made garments products to Canadian market till 2030, would be a huge contribution to continue women’s economic empowerment as around 85 per cent RMG workers in Bangladesh are women.

Bangladesh’s state minister for foreign affairs Md Shahriar Alam, senator for British Columbia Mobina SB Jaffer, Jacqueline O’Neill, ambassador of Women, Peace and Security, Global Affairs Canada, Yasmin Ratansi, member of parliament from Don Valley East in Ontario, Major General (retired) Kristin Lund, former head of mission of United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation, and Commander Carla Monteiro de Castro Araújo of UN peace mission in Central Africa attended at the webinar, among others.

Kawser Ahmed, executive director of BCBS, its director Syeed Khan, and Omar Tejada moderated the session.
